In the Spring of 2014 it was decided to try and refurbish one of the older floats to see if we could extend it's life for another year. However, as these pictures show, what we uncovered was well beyond salvage. The top of the center stringer was rotted leaving little to work with and sections of the side and end pieces were also very much degraded. The intent had been to cut the end back about 2' and rebuild it using new posts and heavy end timbers, all due to the damage done when it was being removed from the water the previous Autumn. It did not take much discussion or time to decide that any attempts at repair would be a waste of time and money so the flotation foam was salvaged while the remainder was broken up for fire wood! | Click the pic to view the slideshow. |
