Dunking Day 2016 is set for Friday, May 27 on the high tide around 3pm. In preparation, and to get a jump on things, three or four floats will be put in on Monday, May 23rd with an additional boost by the crane installing the ramp around noon on Tuesday. With the new ramp arrangement from shore, two of the large old floats were refurbished to add to the shoreward end of the main structure while a third was refurbished to add further life to it's use in the long north finger string. It is hoped to have the two ramp floats in place and properly situated and anchored in place to receive the ramp on Tuesday to ensure proper alignment with the main string of floats on Friday.
With the installation of the floats and the berthing of boats, it is time to initiate the locking of the gate for the summer season. The following is the procedure to be used when going to and from the floats during this boating season.
1. The gate is to be locked by the last person leaving the area in the evening or during the day when it is obvious that no one is around the Club or floats (no cars in the parking area) or that it is reasonable to assume that no boaters are out on the river and likely to return soon.
2. Members should always carry a gate key with their boat or car keys.
3. A spare key is available in the Clubhouse for those who forget their key when going to the floats and should be returned to the Club immediately after opening the gate.
4. A key is also available on the float side of the gate (call 902-748-3632) if returning from downriver and the gate has been inadvertently locked.
Enjoy the season and "Safe Boating"
The decision has been made and May 22nd is dunking day at the Club. High water is around 3pm and the crane is expected around 1pm. Those older members who have been through this routine before look forward to welcoming some of our newer members to the party, and the more the merrier as they say. There are many things that have to be done to get ready in addition to the actual placing and securing in the water.
The site will be slowly updated with new content and features as the spring and summer progresses. If anyone has any ideas for the site or content which may be of interest to members and guests, please feel free to contact the site admin
The March meeting is on Wednesday, March 4 at the usual time. There will be a supper as usual followed by the meeting.
As a reminder, membership renewals are due. This will be an important meeting with finances for the upcoming season expected to be at the top of the agenda. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting.
This storm dumped the most snow so far this winter and it wasn't stopping now. The pics were taken during a lull in the snowfall but it was to pick up again later in the day. At the time of these photos there was a lot of blowing snow causing some whiteouts on the highways to the Club. Looks like Monday will be a "dig out" day!
A work party is being organized for Saturday at 10am, weather permitting! This is an ongoing happening each Saturday and it is hoped that members with a little free time will come down and help out. The main focus at the moment is the new kitchen area but there are several small jobs in the building that need doing as well. Any help will be appreciated.
Note: All outside work is on hold. (see the photos page)
